After World War II, houses sprang up along River Road, and by the late 1950s, the growing community needed a new Catholic Church. Construction on St. Bartholomew Church began in 1959, and the new church opened on June 18, 1960. At the dedication, Archbishop O'Boyle noticed many children in attendance and immediately announced that a school would be established. And so it was that St. Bartholomew School opened in 1961.
Dating back to 1962, the image to the left is from a St. Bartholomew publication that urged donations to cover the costs of the newly built church.
The building to the right of the church initially housed parish priests, but they moved to a rectory on Blacklock Road in 1961 so that the building could be used for classrooms, administrative offices, and to house Sisters of the Divine Providence, who staffed the school.
